NYPD Arrests Protesters at NYU Demonstration

NYU Protest Results in Arrests by NYPD

A demonstration in front of New York University’s business school on Monday evening turned chaotic, leading to multiple arrests by the NYPD.

According to university officials, the protest began with a group of approximately 50 NYU students and grew to hundreds of people, many of whom were not affiliated with the university. The demonstration, which included chants of support for Palestine, became increasingly disruptive and intimidating, prompting the university to call for police assistance.

NYPD officers arrived in riot gear and began arresting protesters at around 8:30 p.m. Footage from the scene showed protesters being led single-file into buses with their hands zip-tied behind their backs. Officers warned demonstrators through megaphones that they would be arrested if they did not disperse.

The university claims that the protest had become unruly and that the protesters refused to leave the campus plaza despite being given an hour to do so. They also reported incidents of anti-Semitism and intimidating chants.

By 9:30 p.m., the encampment had been largely disbanded, and most protesters had either been arrested or had broken into smaller groups. The arrests come amidst a wave of protests at universities across the country over alleged ties to Israel and concerns about the treatment of Palestinians.
