Oakland’s Renowned Horn Barbecue Reopens After Fire and Vandalism

Horn Barbecue, an acclaimed barbecue restaurant in Oakland, will reopen its doors this Friday within the space of owner Matt Horn’s other restaurant, Matty’s Old Fashioned, in downtown Oakland. The relocation follows a fire and vandalism incident that forced the closure of Horn Barbecue’s original location on Mandela Parkway five months ago. Despite the setback, Horn Barbecue has received widespread recognition for its exceptional smoked meats, earning accolades from Michelin and the “Food & Wine” Best New Chef award for Horn in 2021. The integration with Matty’s Old Fashioned will introduce a new menu that seamlessly blends Horn Barbecue’s award-winning offerings with select favorites from Matty’s, complemented by a full bar. Additionally, Horn Barbecue plans to establish a separate shop to cater to the growing demand for quick and convenient barbecue experiences. The incident that led to the closure of Horn Barbecue’s original location is still under investigation, with owner Matt Horn expressing belief that it was an act of arson. However, the restaurant’s resilience and determination to rebuild and continue serving its loyal patrons have been unwavering.
