Oasis Celebrates 30 Years with Two Tokyo Exhibitions: A Look Back at Britpop Legends

Prepare for a dose of Britpop nostalgia as Oasis, the band that defined the 90s with anthems like “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova,” marks their 30th anniversary with two captivating exhibitions in Tokyo this autumn.

The first exhibition,

”Oasis Origin + Reconstruction,”

will be held at New Gallery in Jinbocho, Tokyo. This exhibit brings together the iconic photography of Jill Furmanovsky, who captured the band’s journey from their early days to their peak, with the imaginative collages of contemporary artist Koosuke Kawamura. Furmanovsky, renowned for photographing music legends like Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and The Who, considers her Oasis photography a pinnacle of her career. Her raw, intimate portraits, alongside Kawamura’s bold and dynamic collages, will offer a fresh and multifaceted look at the band’s visual legacy.

The second exhibition,

”Live Forever: Oasis 30th Anniversary Special Exhibition,”

will be held at the Roppongi Museum. This immersive experience delves into the band’s enduring influence and timeless music. Prepare to be captivated by handwritten lyrics, original instruments, iconic posters, and a collection of rare memorabilia that offers a glimpse into the band’s rise to superstardom.

The exhibition goes beyond the music, exploring the cultural context of Oasis’s Manchester roots and the factors that propelled them to international recognition. Attendees will have the opportunity to recreate iconic album covers and immerse themselves in the energy of a live Oasis performance.

Kawamura has also designed a new logo for the band, which will be unveiled at the Roppongi Museum exhibition. Both exhibitions promise a comprehensive and nostalgic experience for Oasis fans, offering a chance to revisit their favorite tracks and delve into the band’s cultural impact.
