A tragic incident has shaken the community in the UK, where an 80-year-old Indian-origin man, Bhim Kohli, was allegedly murdered by a group of children. The incident, reported by the Mirror, unfolded near a park as Kohli was walking his dog, mere seconds from his home.
Witnesses describe the group of children as ‘feral youths’ who brutally attacked Kohli, kicking him in the neck and spine, and even spitting on him. The police have begun their investigation and have apprehended a 14-year-old boy in connection with the murder. Four other children, two boys and two girls, aged 12, were also detained but have been released without charges.
According to locals, the attack appears to be a culmination of a series of prior confrontations between Kohli and the group of children. A few days before the fatal attack, Kohli had verbally confronted the children for attempting to climb on a nearby garage roof. The argument escalated, with the children hurling abuse at the elderly man.
Graham Haldane, a friend of Kohli, told the Mirror, “Bhim had some bother a few months back with some kids who had climbed onto the flat garage roof opposite. He challenged them and they dished out some abuse and spat at him.”
This wasn’t the first instance of the children harassing Kohli. They had previously hurled insults at him, spat on him, and even thrown stones at him on various occasions. The Mirror reports that Kohli was a former factory owner who owned several properties in the area. Earlier this summer, he had reported an incident where the children spat at him outside his home after he advised them to stop climbing on a neighboring garage roof. It remains unclear whether the police took any action against the children following that complaint.
Kohli was described by his acquaintances as a “lovely guy” who was increasingly frail due to osteoporosis, making it difficult for him to move his neck. Locals were shocked by the attack, as they often saw Kohli spending time with his grandchildren at the allotment.
