Mohan Charan Majhi to Take Oath as Odisha Chief Minister

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mohan Charan Majhi is set to take the oath as Odisha’s Chief Minister on Wednesday evening. The tribal leader visited outgoing CM Naveen Patnaik at his residence to formally invite him to the swearing-in ceremony.

Majhi, a four-time MLA, emerged as a significant tribal leader in the coastal state. He won the Keonjhar Assembly constituency by defeating Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) Minu Majhi by over 11,000 votes. The BJP secured a majority in the 147-member Assembly, winning 78 seats while the BJD garnered 51.

A delegation of top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony. Majhi has expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made in the BJP’s manifesto within 100 days of forming the new government.

Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida Appointed as Deputy Chief Ministers

Majhi will be assisted by two deputy chief ministers: Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida. Singh Deo has served as a legislator six times, while Parida is a first-time MLA.

Majhi Prioritizes Protection of Odisha’s ‘Asmita’

Ahead of his swearing-in, Majhi emphasized the protection of Odisha’s ‘Asmita’ (pride) as a top priority for his government. He believes the state’s unique identity and culture must be preserved and promoted.

Majhi’s Rise to Chief Ministership

Majhi’s journey to the Chief Minister’s office has been marked by several electoral victories. He previously represented the Keonjhar Assembly constituency in 2000, 2004, and 2019.

The swearing-in ceremony marks a significant change in Odisha’s political landscape, as the BJP assumes power after 25 years. Majhi’s tenure as Chief Minister will be closely watched as he navigates the challenges and opportunities of governing a diverse and dynamic state.
