Oman has parted ways with Czech coach Jaroslav Silhavy by mutual consent, less than eight months after his appointment. The Oman Football Association announced the decision on Thursday, stating that they had agreed with Silhavy and his assistant technical staff to terminate the contract. The association expressed gratitude for Silhavy’s service and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Silhavy’s departure comes as a result of Oman’s disappointing performance in the third round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The team has yet to secure a single point in Group B, suffering defeats against Iraq (1-0) and South Korea (3-1) in their first two matches.
Oman had appointed Silhavy on February 1, 2024, with a contract that was set to run until 2026. The experienced coach had previously led various clubs in the Czech Republic and had also served as the head coach of his country’s national team from 2018 to 2020. During his tenure with the Czech Republic, Silhavy guided the team to the quarterfinals of Euro 2020 and subsequently led them to the Euro 2024 finals before stepping down.
The decision to part ways with Silhavy reflects the pressure facing the Oman national team to improve their performance in the World Cup qualifiers. The search for a new coach will likely begin immediately as Oman seeks to turn around their fortunes and secure a place in the prestigious tournament.
