According to The Associated Press, the incident occurred outside Atlanta and resulted in two crew members being hospitalized.
Initial reports indicate that the truck malfunctioned and collided with the car while filming a scene. A studio spokesperson stated that all necessary safety precautions had been implemented and the scene had been rehearsed prior to filming.
As of Tuesday, April 23, two crew members remain hospitalized, with one still receiving treatment. However, all are anticipated to make a full recovery. A source close to the production described the accident as a ‘completely freak accident’ and emphasized that it was not a particularly complex or dangerous stunt.
The lead stars of ‘The Pickup,’ including Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson, were reportedly not present on set at the time of the accident. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the incident and expressed concern for the injured crew members. They emphasized that an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and that safety remains a top priority for the production.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) has also launched an investigation into the accident. Despite the incident, production on ‘The Pickup’ is expected to continue without delay. The release date for the Amazon film has not been announced yet.
