Once Homeless Dog Wins a Home After Star Appearance in Omaze Charity Draw

Billy, a nine-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, spent over 300 days in care after being abandoned in Camden, London. The gentle and friendly dog won the hearts of RSPCA staff and the public alike, starring in an Omaze charity campaign alongside actress Joanna Page. Billy’s journey took an unexpected turn when he was selected to visit a house that was the prize in a draw raising £3.5 million for the RSPCA. He even had his photo taken with Gavin and Stacey actress Joanna Page.

After his media appearance, Billy’s popularity soared, and he became a symbol of hope for other abandoned animals. His gentle nature and playful demeanor made him a favorite among staff and visitors at the RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre in Hertfordshire.

Fate smiled upon Billy when Sue and Bill Greenwood, a couple from Harpenden, Hertfordshire, came looking for a new furry companion. They were immediately smitten with Billy’s charm and instantly knew he was the perfect fit for their family.

Sue Greenwood expressed her joy at finding Billy: “He settled in quite quickly with us… He’s a gentle, elderly man and is friendly to everyone. Everyone just thinks he’s wonderful because he is!”

The couple, who have had dogs and cats throughout their married life, couldn’t be happier with their new addition. They praised Billy’s placid nature and his ability to bring joy to everyone he meets.

Anna White, Manager at RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre, said: “Billy is a very lucky dog, he has a fantastic home and Sue and Bill are very lucky adopters because they have a fantastic dog.”

The Greenwoods fostered Billy for the first two weeks before making his new abode his permanent home. It didn’t take long for them to realize they “wanted him to stay forever.”

Billy’s story is a heartwarming reminder of the resilience and love that can be found in animals, even after they have faced abandonment. His journey from homelessness to a loving home is a testament to the incredible work of animal welfare organizations like the RSPCA and the generosity of people like Sue and Bill Greenwood.
