Lt. Michael Hoosock’s dedication to serving his community as a cop, firefighter, and paramedic was evident throughout his 16-year career with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. His quick actions saved a man’s life at a traffic accident in 2008, earning him the eternal gratitude of the man’s family. Hoosock’s tragic death, along with Syracuse police Officer Michael Jensen, in a Salina shooting on April 14, 2024, sent shockwaves through the community. Thousands gathered at the New York State Fairgrounds to pay their final respects to Hoosock, whose funeral was open to the public. The procession commenced from the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. funeral home to the Expo Center in Geddes, where a heartfelt ceremony was held. Camillus police Officer Jay Pollard, who worked with Hoosock, spoke of his unwavering commitment to helping others and his ability to make people feel at ease in critical situations. Friends, family, and law enforcement personnel from across the region attended the funeral, their presence a testament to the impact Hoosock had on so many lives. Firefighters raised American flags on ladder trucks, while a Jumbotron displayed photos of Hoosock with his beloved family. The burial service at Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse was private, but the community lined the streets along the procession route to bid farewell to a true hero.
