Gujarat Titans’ dynamic opening duo, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, made significant strides in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap race. Sudharsan, who blasted his first IPL century, amassed 103 runs off just 51 deliveries, including five boundaries and seven towering sixes. Gill, on the other hand, registered his maiden ton of the season, scoring a magnificent 104 runs off 55 balls, adorned with half a dozen maximums.
Sudharsan’s explosive knock propelled him up five spots to the fourth position in the rankings. With his 103-run contribution, he became the fourth player to surpass the 500-run mark this season, joining the illustrious company of Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Travis Head. The Gujarat Titans batter now boasts an impressive tally of 527 runs in 12 matches.
Meanwhile, Gill’s blistering century propelled him back into the Top 10 list. He currently sits at number 10, having accumulated 426 runs in 12 matches. Chennai Super Kings skipper Gaikwad, despite failing to capitalize on a scoring opportunity against CSK, remains in second place with 542 runs in 12 games. He was dismissed for a duck during the match.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Travis Head continues to hold firm in third place with 533 runs in 11 matches. Sanju Samson, the skipper of Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders opener Sunil Narine occupy the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, with 471 and 461 runs to their names.
Gill and Sudharsan’s exceptional batting display powered Gujarat Titans to a comfortable 35-run victory over Chennai Super Kings. This victory keeps GT’s playoff hopes alive, at least theoretically. Their formidable opening partnership contributed a remarkable 210 runs for the first wicket, matching the record set by Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul in 2022.
