Orange Liberia, in collaboration with its strategic partner ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of information and communication technology solutions, has announced the successful completion of a project to build new communication sites across Liberia. This project, known as Rural EcoSites, aims to enhance network coverage in rural areas, bringing connectivity to previously underserved communities.
The project, which was completed in a remarkably short timeframe of just three months, involved the construction of 128 communication sites. These sites utilize energy-efficient, wide-coverage wireless base station equipment operating on the 800MHz and 900MHz bands. The network provides 2G voice services for users in remote areas and supports 4G data services.
To ensure sustainability and reduce environmental impact, each site incorporates solar energy and smart lithium batteries, further enhanced by PowerPilot AI energy-saving software. The project also addressed transmission challenges with flexible solutions like microwave, satellite, and 4G relay technology.
This significant infrastructure development represents a major improvement in communication services for Liberia’s rural regions. Over 580,000 subscribers in these areas will now benefit from enhanced access to digital, financial, and energy services.
Jean Marius YAO, CEO of Orange Liberia, expressed the company’s commitment to providing improved communication services to the people of Liberia. “We will continue to work with partners like ZTE to advance Liberia’s telecommunications sector,” he stated.
Zhang Guanzhen, CEO of ZTE Orange MEA Account, highlighted the significance of this project as the first implementation of their rural network solution with the Orange Group. “This project represents a significant breakthrough in our collaboration,” added Zhang Guanzhen. Despite challenging conditions, including underdeveloped infrastructure and harsh climates, the teams from both companies successfully overcame obstacles to deliver the project.
This project marks a key milestone in the ongoing partnership between Orange Group and ZTE Corporation. The newly built rural network infrastructure is poised to strengthen Liberia’s rural communities, facilitating economic and social integration. Orange Liberia and ZTE are committed to further advancing the telecommunications landscape in Liberia.
