Oregon Class 6A Baseball: Midway Madness

Halfway through the Oregon Class 6A baseball season, several teams have emerged as title contenders. Sunset, Jesuit, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Tualatin, Sprague, South Salem, and Wells have all posted impressive records.

Contenders, Contenders, Contenders

At the beginning of the season, West Linn was the easy favorite. However, a large pool of teams have emerged as contenders. Sunset is the last undefeated team in Class 6A at 16-0. Jesuit, a perennial contender, is 11-4. The Three Rivers League has West Linn (13-4), Lake Oswego (14-4), and Tualatin (12-6). The Central Valley Conference has Sprague (15-3) and South Salem (15-1). The Portland Interscholastic League has Wells (11-3).

Salem Schools Looking for Their Spot

The Central Valley Conference is one of the hottest leagues this spring, boasting both Sprague and South Salem. The Olympians and the Saxons are both standing among the state’s top teams midway through the season.

Wells is Running Hot

The Guardians have one of the better one-two punches on the bump statewide with Utah commit Griffin Scott and University of Portland commit Quin Dufort. Their biggest win of the season came on April 19 in a 6-5 upset win over Sprague.

Who Can Survive the Three Rivers League?

The Three Rivers League is as competitive as ever. West Linn leads the way with a 6-1 league record. Lake Oswego (5-2), Lakeridge (4-3), and Tualatin (3-4) are all in the race as well.

Is Sunset the Team to Beat in the Metro League?

Undefeated in late April, the Apollos have a good chance to unseat Jesuit’s two-year stranglehold on the Metro League this spring. Sunset is anchored by junior pitcher Kruz Schoolcraft, who may be the top ace in the state.
