The Osklen story isn’t just about clothes; it’s about a family intertwined with the brand’s evolution. Caetana Metsavaht, the eldest daughter of founder Oskar Metsavaht and Nazaré, grew up alongside Osklen, witnessing firsthand its creation and growth. “It’s like a fourth sibling,” she says, reflecting on the brand’s presence throughout her life. Alongside her brothers, Thomas and Felipe, Caetana has been immersed in Osklen’s world, from playing in the office as children to attending fashion shows and family dinners filled with discussions about the latest designs.
This intimate connection with the brand has blossomed into the Atelier collection, a capsule line curated by Osklen’s “new generation” – as Juliana Suassuna, the brand’s design director for 22 years, calls them. Though Oskar oversaw the project, he gave his children creative freedom. Alongside their partners, Guilherme Boavista and Carolina Fróes, the siblings embarked on a journey through Osklen’s archives, drawing inspiration from their personal favorites. “We wanted to revisit the codes we love most about Osklen,” says Felipe, highlighting their shared appreciation for vintage Osklen pieces.
The resulting collection, primarily crafted in Osklen’s Rio de Janeiro atelier, features meticulously tailored pieces in luxurious fabrics like silk, linen, and organic cotton. Oskar was surprised by the high standards set by his children: “I didn’t think they’d choose such sophisticated fabrics. In the end, it’s what they want to wear, their perspective on Osklen.”
The process was collaborative, with Caetana and Carolina leading the women’s line, Felipe and Guilherme focusing on menswear, and Thomas contributing to the communication aspect. While they divided tasks, everyone participated in every stage, fostering a sense of unity. “We all got to participate and enjoy the process,” says Caetana, highlighting the seamless flow of ideas that has always characterized their family dynamics.
The “new generation’s” vision for Osklen is rooted in ensuring the brand’s longevity while adapting to changing times. “We want to maintain the brand’s strong ethos while staying relevant to new generations,” says Guilherme. The Osklen lifestyle, characterized by a blend of cosmopolitan living and connection to nature, is deeply ingrained in their lives. Beyond the fashion realm, Oskar and Nazaré climb the Tijuca National Park at dawn, Thomas and Felipe surf at Arpoador, and Caetana and Guilherme run through downtown Rio. This inherent understanding of the Osklen spirit fuels their ambition to carry the brand forward, ensuring its enduring legacy for generations to come.
