A wave of outrage has swept through the town of Badlapur in Thane district, Maharashtra, following the arrest of a school attendant accused of sexually abusing two young girls. The incident, which involved two kindergarten students, has sparked widespread protests and demands for swift justice.
Hundreds of parents, enraged by the alleged crime, have staged a ‘rail roko’ protest at Badlapur railway station since Tuesday morning. Their aim: to condemn the incident and demand strict action against the accused. The protest has disrupted the movement of suburban trains, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
In response to the public outcry, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the police to book the accused under the attempt to rape charge. He has also spoken to the Thane Commissioner of Police, ensuring that the case is fast-tracked and investigated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
To further expedite the investigation, the Thane Police Commissioner has ordered a proposal to be submitted for taking the case to a fast-track court.
Adding to the efforts to ensure a thorough investigation, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a senior IPS officer, Arti Singh, to probe the incident.
The incident has sparked widespread public outrage, highlighting the need for greater vigilance and stricter measures to protect children from such heinous crimes. The authorities are under immense pressure to deliver justice to the victims and ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
