A devastating stampede has occurred at a Hindu religious gathering in Phulrai village, Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, claiming the lives of over 107 people. The incident, which took place during the conclusion of a ‘Satsang’, a religious congregation usually held overnight, has left the community in shock and mourning.
According to reports, the stampede was caused by overcrowding, resulting in a tragic loss of life. Among the deceased are 23 women, three children, and a man. Twenty-seven bodies have been brought to Etah Hospital, where authorities are working tirelessly to provide assistance to the grieving families.
Expressing profound sorrow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has extended condolences to the bereaved families and instructed officials to reach the accident site immediately to conduct relief measures. He has also ordered an investigation into the causes of the incident, forming a team under the leadership of the ADG, Agra, and the Commissioner, Aligarh.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also expressed his deepest condolences, describing the incident as “extremely painful.” He has assured the families of the victims that the local administration is providing all possible support under the supervision of the state government.
President Droupadi Murmu has also shared her condolences, calling the news of the tragedy “heart-rending.” She offered prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured in the stampede.
The UP government is committed to providing comprehensive support to the affected families and conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. The incident has highlighted the importance of crowd control measures and the need for adequate safety protocols at religious gatherings.
