Around 50 ATVs and dirt bikes participated in illegal sideshows in Oakland on Sunday afternoon.
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) was notified of the illegal activity around 1:15 p.m., with reports of dozens of dirt bikes in the area of Bellevue and Grand Avenues. Shortly after, OPD received another call regarding approximately 50 dirt bikes and ATVs circling Lake Merritt and engaging in reckless behavior, including riding on sidewalks and driving in the opposite direction of traffic.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., OPD was informed of another sideshow involving 50 dirt bikes in the area of 73rd Avenue and International Boulevard. Additional officers were deployed to the scene to contain the sideshow activity.
OPD urges the public to report any information regarding illegal sideshows, including the vehicles and individuals involved. The department emphasizes that sideshows pose a significant safety hazard to the community and encourages residents to email sideshowtips@oaklandca.gov with any relevant information.
