Over 8 Lakh Aspirants Brace for UPSC Mains Exam, Strict Security Measures in Place

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Mains examination, the second crucial step in the recruitment process for coveted central services and posts, is set to take place on Friday. Over 8 lakh aspirants will be taking the test, hoping to secure their place in the prestigious Indian bureaucracy. The examination is known for its rigorous nature and intense competition, attracting candidates from across the country.

To ensure a fair and secure examination environment, the UPSC has implemented strict security measures. Candidates will be required to follow a comprehensive set of rules, with a particular emphasis on prohibited items. Mobile phones, along with any other electronic devices, including cameras, Bluetooth devices, and smartwatches, are strictly prohibited from the examination venue, even if they are switched off. The list also extends to all kinds of programmable devices and storage media, such as pen drives.

Additionally, no bags or books will be allowed inside the examination hall. Candidates are advised to carry only their e-admit card, pen, pencil, photo ID proof, copies of self-photos, and any other items specifically mentioned in the instructions. The list of banned items also includes incendiary materials like matchboxes and cigarette lighters.

The UPSC emphasizes the importance of candidates not bringing any valuable items to the examination hall or the UPSC premises, as the commission cannot guarantee their safety. It’s crucial to note that the same restrictions will be in place during the UPSC personality tests (interviews) that follow the Mains exam.

The commission has warned that any infringement of these rules can lead to disciplinary action, including cancellation of candidature, debarment from future selections, and even filing of a police complaint.

To facilitate a smooth entry process, candidates are advised to reach the examination venue well in advance. The entry to the examination hall will be closed 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination session, as per the current UPSC policy. Candidates arriving after the closure time will not be allowed to take the examination. The UPSC has uploaded an FAQ document on its website, providing detailed information regarding the examination and the security protocols.

The UPSC Mains examination is a significant step in the journey of aspiring civil servants. The intense competition and stringent security measures reflect the importance of the selection process and the high standards expected of those chosen to serve the nation.
