Overwatch 2 has just rolled out a new mode called Competitive Drives, designed to entice players like myself to dive deeper into the ranked scene. Essentially, it’s a system that rewards you for playing ranked matches, with the potential to earn some pretty cool loot along the way.
Let’s break down how it works. For every match you win, you’ll earn drive points based on the Skill Rank percentage you gain. For example, if you earn 21% towards your next tier and division, you’ll receive a whopping 210 drive points! But it’s not all sunshine and roses. Losing a match will result in a deduction of drive points, specifically five times the Skill Rank percentage you lose. So, if you lose a match that costs you 19% of your competitive rank progress, you’ll lose 95 drive points.
Now, what if you get stuck with a less-than-stellar team (something all Overwatch 2 players are familiar with) and can’t seem to rack up those drive points? Don’t worry, the developers have got you covered. Losing matches will only cause a small loss of drive progress, and reaching checkpoints guarantees your progress and rewards. So, even if you encounter some tough battles, you can rest assured that you’re making steady progress.
Speaking of rewards, the developers have lined up some enticing goodies for those who push through the checkpoints. Each of the six stages comes with its own unique prize, either in the form of competitive points (which can be used to snag a new Golden or Jade weapon) or the wicked new signatures that Overwatch 2 has added for battletags. These signatures, reminiscent of the system found in Call of Duty, offer a fresh way to personalize your in-game identity. So far, I’m a big fan!
Overall, Competitive Drives introduces a new dimension to Overwatch 2’s ranked gameplay, providing an extra layer of motivation to climb the ranks. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a newcomer to competitive play, the system offers a chance to earn valuable rewards and make significant progress towards your goals. So, gather your team, dive into the fray, and let the drive begin!
