Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of Jason Gillespie as the head coach of the men’s Test team and Gary Kirsten as the head coach of the one-day international (ODI) side. Gillespie, who previously guided Yorkshire to back-to-back County Championship titles in 2014 and 2015, will take charge of the team during England’s Test tour of Pakistan later this year. On the other hand, Kirsten, who led India to World Cup glory in 2011 and his native South Africa to the top spot in the ICC Test rankings a year later, will take charge of Pakistan’s white-ball sides, which tour England in May. Additionally, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood will assist both Gillespie and Kirsten across all formats. All three coaches have signed two-year deals with the PCB. Gillespie expressed his excitement about leading the Pakistan Test team, acknowledging their rich legacy and passionate fan base. He highlighted his fondness for Test cricket and the abundance of talent in Pakistan. Kirsten, too, expressed his honor in being appointed as the head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball team, aiming to contribute positively to their limited-overs cricket. Pakistan’s upcoming schedule includes playing seven T20Is next month – three against Ireland and four against England – ahead of the T20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean in June.
