Amidst a series of attacks that have claimed the lives of at least 50 individuals, including 14 security personnel, in the restive Balochistan province, the Pakistan Army has vowed to uphold its commitment to combating terrorism. The army’s declaration came following a Corps Commanders’ Conference held on Tuesday, presided over by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.
Pakistan has been grappling with insurgencies in both Balochistan in the south and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the north-west. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has been spearheading the insurgency in Balochistan, while the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been leading the fight in the north-west.
In a statement released after the commanders’ meeting, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted the discussion of the prevailing geopolitical landscape, national security concerns, and strategic responses to emerging threats. The meeting addressed the activities of hostile forces, subversive groups, and individuals aiding Pakistan’s external and internal adversaries, particularly those operating in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ISPR emphasized that the Pakistan Army, with the unwavering support of the people, will not allow the hard-earned successes against terrorism to be reversed.
The commanders’ conference focused not only on suppressing terrorism but also on ensuring the prosecution of those involved. Recognizing the need for a robust legal system, General Munir emphasized the Army’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to the government, administrative bodies, and law enforcement agencies in taking swift and legal action against terrorists, anarchists, and criminal gangs.
The conference also acknowledged the importance of cybersecurity, recognizing the critical need to safeguard national cyberspace. The commanders expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to combat illegal spectrum operations linked to terrorist networks and underscored the importance of robust cybersecurity measures.
Although the meeting centered on Pakistan’s security situation, the ISPR’s press release also mentioned the issues of Kashmir and Palestine. The release stated that the commanders expressed solidarity with Kashmiris and condemned the continued violence and genocide of Palestinians by Israel.
