Pakistan Hockey Team Receives $100 Reward for Bronze Medal at Asian Champions Trophy

The Pakistan hockey team’s hard work and dedication at the Asian Champions Trophy has been rewarded with a USD 100 cash prize for each player and official. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) made the announcement on Wednesday, confirming the special prize sanctioned by PHF President Mir Tariq Bugti. This gesture signifies the federation’s appreciation for the team’s bronze medal victory.

Pakistan secured third place in the tournament after a thrilling 5-2 victory over Korea in the bronze-medal match. The team narrowly missed out on a place in the final after a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to hosts China in the semifinals. India emerged as the champions, securing their record fifth title after defeating China on Tuesday.

The PHF, in their press release, emphasized that the cash award was intended to “acknowledge and encourage” the team’s performance during the tournament. The federation also expressed their commitment to supporting player Abu Bakr Mahmood, who was injured during the event, by providing him with full rehabilitation facilities.

In a moving gesture, the PHF dedicated the bronze medal to player Ghazanfar Ali, whose father tragically passed away during the tournament. Despite the immense personal loss, Ghazanfar demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience by continuing to play in the event, showcasing the true spirit of sportsmanship. The PHF’s dedication of the medal is a testament to Ghazanfar’s unwavering commitment to his team and the sport.
