Parents Accused of Horrific Abuse in Death of Twin Infants
Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both 21 years old, have been arrested and charged with two counts each of injury to a child-serious bodily injury in connection with the death of their twin babies in October 2023. The couple made court appearances on Monday, during which their attorneys requested bond reductions. However, the judge denied their requests.
Prosecutor Edward Appelbaum stated that the parents are each facing two counts, one for commission of the crime and one for omission. The children suffered blunt force injuries, were severely malnourished, and had old and new injuries.
Investigators believe that the couple failed to provide proper care for the children. Calderon’s aunt expressed the opinion that she should be held accountable for the neglect, even if she did not physically harm the infants.
The case is still under investigation, and the parents could face additional charges as more evidence is gathered.
