Parents of Kolkata Rape-Murder Victim Accuse Police of Cover-Up

The parents of the victim in the horrific R G Kar rape-murder case have launched a scathing attack on the Kolkata police, accusing them of attempting to cover up the crime. In a heart-wrenching demonstration on Sunday evening, they declared their unwavering commitment to seeking justice for their daughter, even if it meant taking matters into their own hands.

The victim’s father, speaking to the Times of India, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming public support, which he believes gives him the strength to fight for justice. “Justice will not come easily,” he said. “We have to fight for it. This will not be possible without everyone’s support.”

His wife, the victim’s mother, spoke of her unimaginable grief, describing the haunting thoughts of her daughter’s suffering before her death. “Whenever I think about the torment and pain my daughter endured that night, I shudder,” she told PTI. “She had aspirations to serve society. Now, all these protesters are like my children.”

The victim’s mother further condemned the Kolkata police for their lack of support from the beginning of the investigation. “There might have been some hope, but the police did not cooperate,” she said, as reported by the Times of India. “Instead, they attempted to cover up the crime and tampered with evidence.”

The gruesome discovery of the young doctor’s body in the hospital’s seminar hall on August 9, 2024, revealed a horrifying truth. The autopsy confirmed rape and assault, identifying approximately 25 internal and external injuries.

So far, the police have arrested Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer who was seen entering the seminar hall at 4:03 am on the night of the murder. Sandip Roy, the college’s ex-principal, has also been apprehended on graft charges. The CBI is now leading the investigation.

The victim’s parents have further accused R G Kar Medical College and Hospital of attempting to cover up the crime by initially suggesting the death was a suicide. They allege that hospital authorities made them wait for three hours before allowing them to view their daughter’s body.

The family’s accusations, coupled with the delayed registration of the FIR by 14 hours, have cast a dark shadow on the police and hospital authorities. The case has sparked outrage and calls for swift and transparent justice, with the public demanding accountability from all involved.
