The men’s triathlon at the Paris 2024 Olympics will not take place as planned on Tuesday, as pollution levels in the Seine River remain too high. World Triathlon announced in a statement that the race has been postponed to Wednesday at 10:45 AM (14:15 IST), immediately following the women’s event scheduled for 8 AM. This decision is a setback for organizers who previously stated their belief that water quality would improve in time for the competition. Heavy rains last weekend resulted in the river becoming polluted, leaving the 55 triathletes who were prepared to compete on Tuesday facing further uncertainty.
Organizers explained that despite recent improvements in water quality levels, readings at certain points of the swim course still exceed acceptable limits. World Triathlon will hold a meeting with coaches at 8 AM on Tuesday to provide them with all necessary information and the updated race schedule.
