The 33rd edition of the Olympic Games is set to conclude in Paris on August 11, Monday, after just over three weeks of thrilling competition. Unlike the opening ceremony, which was held on the River Seine, the closing ceremony will take place at the Stade de France, the venue that hosted the track and field events for this edition of the quadrennial event.
The 117-member Indian contingent, who traveled to Germany, concluded their campaign with five bronze medals and one silver. Shooter Manu Bhaker made history as the first Indian since independence to win two medals in the same edition, while the men’s hockey team achieved back-to-back Olympic medals for the first time in over five decades.
At the closing ceremony, Manu and hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh will proudly represent India as flagbearers during the Parade of Nations.
The ceremony will also include the symbolic extinguishing of the Olympic Flame and the official transfer of the Olympic Flag to the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee. Adding to the excitement, Hollywood star Tom Cruise, currently filming the latest installment of the “Mission Impossible” franchise in Europe, is expected to make a grand appearance at the closing ceremony. Reports suggest he is slated to perform a spectacular stunt sequence to mark the transition of the Games from Paris to Los Angeles, which will involve the handover of the Olympic flag between the two cities.
Titled ‘Records,’ the ceremony will be directed by renowned French theatre director and actor Thomas Jolly, who also masterfully helmed the opening ceremony.
