In anticipation of the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, officials at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport have unveiled a significant enhancement to their airport security and baggage handling system. The airport has implemented a state-of-the-art scanner system, providing a more detailed inspection of passengers’ luggage. Passengers will now be able to leave electronic devices, aerosols, and liquids in their bags, streamlining the security screening process.
Edward Arkwright, CEO of Aéroports de Paris Group, emphasized the airport’s commitment to safety, stating that questionable items will not be allowed to leave the airport. The airport anticipates processing over 114,000 pieces of baggage from delegations and the media, along with an estimated 47,000 pieces of sports equipment.
A dedicated “baggage factory” covering 10,000 square meters has been established to efficiently handle the vast quantities of sports equipment and luggage. The airport’s project manager, Sébastien Malaussene, highlighted the challenges posed by the oversized luggage carried by athletes. The airport is prepared to accommodate this unique requirement, ensuring a smooth and efficient luggage management process for all participants in the upcoming Games.
