Authorities in Paris have arrested and charged a 32-year-old man with kidnapping, raping, and torturing a Jewish woman in an abhorrent act of anti-Semitism. The suspect allegedly committed these heinous crimes to “avenge Palestine.” An investigation was initiated following the arrest of the man in Gennevilliers, a heavily immigrant-populated suburb. The suspect’s identity remains undisclosed by officials. The investigation delved into allegations of “kidnapping, sequestration, rape, and death threats.” On Tuesday, officials announced that the suspect would face additional charges of “use of narcotics and death threats materialized in writing due to religion.” According to French media, the suspect and the victim had initially connected earlier last week. After arriving at the suspect’s apartment, the woman was held captive against her will, and her phone was confiscated. The suspect reportedly sent text messages to the victim’s mother and former boyfriend, threatening to “prostitute” the woman as a means of avenging Palestine. On Sunday, the victim managed to retrieve her phone and contacted her mother for help, enabling authorities to locate her. The suspect’s police custody was subsequently lifted, and he was subjected to a “delayed appearance procedure.” Prosecutors have requested that he be placed under judicial supervision. While authorities have substantiated the kidnapping charges, the rape allegations remain under investigation. The suspect’s connection to the victim prior to these events remains unclear. The suspect will appear before the 16th criminal chamber on June 21, as reported by Le Parisien.
