Parking Mayhem in Eastlands: Incorrect Tickets Frustrate Residents
Residents living near the Co-op Live and Etihad Stadium in Eastlands, Manchester, have been subjected to a wave of incorrect parking tickets. The issue stems from a new residents’ parking scheme implemented alongside the opening of the 23,500-capacity Co-op Live venue on April 20th. The scheme, which operates seven days a week from midday to 11 pm, was intended to deter gig-goers and football fans from parking on residential roads.
However, over-zealous enforcement officers have issued 159 tickets during the Co-op Live opening weekend alone. Confusion reigns among Beswick residents over the process for obtaining visitors’ passes, leading to their guests being fined. The scheme’s operating hours have also been a source of uncertainty, with one resident being penalized for parking in their own driveway.
The influx of appeals has overwhelmed Manchester City Council officers, resulting in a significant backlog. Councillor Alan Good expressed dismay at the situation, emphasizing that the scheme was intended to protect residents. He has raised concerns about the training of parking wardens and requested a plan from council managers to address the issue promptly.
Council Response and Solutions
Manchester City Council has acknowledged the problem and assured residents that any ticket issued in error will be canceled immediately. Furthermore, the 14-day half-price early-payment window for validly ticketed individuals will be suspended upon appeal.
The council has emphasized that residents must take responsibility for obtaining the necessary permits to avoid penalties. All relevant information on the scheme is available on the council’s website. Residents can also find more details about the Eastlands Parking scheme online.
