Parth Pawar, the son of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, has been provided with ‘Y-plus’ category security cover by the state government. This decision was made due to concerns over his safety during the election campaign. Parth Pawar is the Lok Sabha candidate for the NCP in Baramati, a seat that has been considered a stronghold of the Pawar family. His mother, Sunetra Pawar, is also contesting the election from this constituency.
The ‘Y-plus’ security cover includes an 11-member crew, including commandos. This level of protection is typically provided to high-ranking officials and politicians. The decision to provide Parth Pawar with this security cover was taken based on an assessment of the potential risks he faces during the campaign.
A local functionary of the NCP said that Parth Pawar is actively reaching out to people as part of the election campaign for his mother. He is an aggressive leader and there were concerns surrounding his security as he moves around in remote areas. The increased security cover is intended to ensure his safety during this period.
However, Parth Pawar’s cousin, Rohit Pawar, who belongs to the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, criticized the decision. He alleged that Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadanvis was prioritizing the security of political leaders’ children, MLAs, and actors while neglecting the safety concerns of the common man. Rohit Pawar sarcastically suggested that two tanks should be deployed to provide security to Parth Pawar.
The provision of ‘Y-plus’ security cover to Parth Pawar has sparked debate about the allocation of security resources. Some have argued that it is necessary to ensure the safety of political leaders during election campaigns, while others have questioned whether such a high level of protection is warranted.
