World Athletics has announced the list of athletes who have qualified for the Paris Olympics through automatic qualification and rankings. Among the qualified athletes, Indian track and field star Parul Chaudhary has made history by securing her place in two events: the 3000m steeplechase and the 5000m race.
This achievement makes Parul the only Indian track and field athlete to qualify for two events at the upcoming Paris Olympics. She had already secured her spot in the 3000m steeplechase by breaking the national record at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Now, her impressive world ranking has granted her entry into the 5000m race as well.
Meanwhile, there is a chance for another Indian athlete, Jeswin Aldrin, to compete in the long jump event at the Olympics. This opportunity arises due to an injury to M Sreeshankar, who had previously qualified by entry standard but will now be unable to participate. If the selection criteria prioritize the next best athlete based on World Rankings, Jeswin could secure his Olympic spot.
