Pastor Corey Brooks, founder of Project H.O.O.D. (Helping Others Obtain Destiny), a non-profit organization in Chicago’s South Side, is sounding the alarm about what he sees as the Democratic Party’s exploitation of Black Americans. He argues that Democrats use rhetoric about racism and systemic injustice to maintain power while enacting policies that he believes actively harm the Black community.
Brooks points to the recent vetoed California bill, AB 1840, known as the ‘California Dream for All’ loan program, as a prime example. This bill would have provided up to $150,000 in first-time homeownership loans to illegal immigrants. Brooks finds this particularly ironic considering that many of his staff members, who work hard and contribute to the community, still struggle to afford a home.
He argues that while the Democratic Party claims to fight for Black Americans, their actions often contradict their words. He cites examples like the declaration of Chicago as a sanctuary city for migrants, while predominantly Black neighborhoods continue to experience disproportionate levels of violence. He also questions the promises of reparations for Black people, which he believes are simply a political ploy for votes.
Brooks feels that the Democratic Party is playing a dangerous game by exploiting Black Americans and using them as a political pawn. He believes that this manipulation is contributing to the ongoing struggles faced by the Black community, including issues like poverty, lack of educational opportunities, and high crime rates.
He urges Black Americans to wake up to this reality and fight for their own interests instead of blindly supporting the Democratic Party. Brooks believes that true progress for the Black community requires a shift in perspective and a focus on self-empowerment, not reliance on political promises that ultimately fail to deliver real change.
Brooks’ outspoken criticism of the Democratic Party and his call for Black Americans to take charge of their own destiny have sparked debate and controversy. However, his passionate plea for change and his dedication to improving the lives of his community resonate with many who feel disillusioned by the political landscape and the lack of tangible progress for Black Americans.
