The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has announced a significant partnership with the Tourism Seasonality Summit (TSS) to tackle the pressing issue of tourism seasonality across the Asia Pacific region. This collaboration aims to bring innovative solutions to the forefront, ensuring a more balanced and sustainable tourism experience for both travelers and host destinations.
The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by Ged Brown, CEO of the World Tourism Seasonality Summit, and Noor Ahmad Hamid, CEO of PATA. The signing ceremony took place on August 27 during the PATA Knowledge Forum, a highlight of the PATA Travel Mart 2024 program.
This alliance is more than just addressing seasonality; it represents a forward-thinking approach to reshaping tourism strategies in the region. By combining their expertise, both PATA and TSS aim to create new frameworks that will help destinations manage visitor flows more effectively throughout the year. The partnership will also foster collaboration on research and best practices, empowering local communities and tourism stakeholders to adapt to and mitigate the effects of seasonal fluctuations.
“PATA is delighted to solidify our relationship with Tourism Seasonality Summit and address one of the most pressing challenges in our industry,” remarked PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid. “This collaboration aligns with the Association’s mission to bring together private and public sector members to enhance the value, quality, and sustainable growth of travel and tourism. By working together, we aim to develop strategies that will effectively manage and alleviate the impact of tourism seasonality.”
This agreement represents a unified commitment to tackling the challenges of peak season tourism, which frequently leads to over-tourism. Both organizations are devoted to protecting, preserving, and enhancing tourism experiences for future generations of travelers and the communities that host them.
Ged Brown, CEO of the World Tourism Seasonality Summit, stated, “The Tourism Seasonality Summit is the only travel and tourism event which is focused completely on resolving the seasonality issues facing tourism destinations, airports and airlines. With Asia leading the future growth of tourism worldwide, we are delighted to be partnering with PATA as Asia’s most influential travel industry community and we look forward to welcoming PATA members to the inaugural event at Routes World in Bahrain on 8th October and to our future events in 2025.”
This collaboration will offer mutual benefits, including increased brand visibility and opportunities to speak at each other’s events, among others. The partnership between PATA and TSS signifies a significant step towards creating a more balanced and sustainable tourism future in the Asia Pacific region.
