PATA Honors Chapters and Individuals for Excellence in Tourism

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) recently honored six PATA Chapters and three Student Chapters for their outstanding dedication to the growth and innovation of the travel and tourism sector. This recognition took place during the PATA Power of Networking session, held at the Abandoned Mansion Bangkok on Thursday, August 29. This event brought together influential figures and emerging leaders from across the Asia Pacific region, all united in their shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of tourism excellence.

The event highlighted the significant contributions of these chapters, emphasizing their role in driving sustainable practices and forward-thinking strategies that continue to shape the future of travel in the Asia Pacific. During the session, the spotlight was also on the recipients of the 2024 PATA Face of the Future award. This prestigious accolade celebrates young professionals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision in the industry, marking them as rising stars in the global tourism landscape. Their innovative approaches and dedication to fostering growth in their respective areas were key factors in their selection for this honor.

In addition to the awards, certificates of recognition were formally presented to the winners, further acknowledging their efforts in promoting the values and mission of PATA. These certificates serve not only as a testament to their hard work but also as a motivation for continued excellence in their future endeavors.

During the event, PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid reflected on the purpose of the PATA Chapter & Student Chapter Awards, stating, “These awards were established to honour the unwavering commitment of our Chapters and Student Chapters in advancing the travel and tourism industry. They also highlight the vital role these groups play in organising impactful training programmes and business development events across the globe, all while carrying forward PATA’s mission to foster meaningful partnerships that enhance the value, quality, and sustainable growth of travel and tourism within the Asia Pacific region.”

He continued, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to all participants and warmly congratulate the winners. Your success is an inspiration to us all, and I am confident that you will continue to lead with the same passion and dedication in the years to come.”

Spirit of PATA Award

The PATA India Chapter was recently honored with the prestigious Spirit of PATA Award, recognizing its unwavering commitment to upholding the mission and values of the Pacific Asia Travel Association for more than five years. This accolade highlights the chapter’s consistent efforts in promoting sustainable tourism and fostering collaboration across the Asia Pacific region. By embodying the core principles of PATA, the India Chapter has set a high standard for excellence within the organization, making significant contributions to the travel and tourism industry. Representatives from the chapter were present to receive the esteemed award, underscoring the collective effort that went into this achievement.

Runeep Sangha, the Executive Director of the PATA India Chapter, proudly accepted the award, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the entire team. Their commitment to PATA’s vision has played a crucial role in driving the chapter’s initiatives and has served as an inspiration to other chapters within the association. Joining Sangha in accepting the award were Venkatesan Dhattareyan, Regional Director of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and San Jeet, a member of the PATA Executive Board. Jonathan Low, a key member of the chapter’s Executive Committee, graciously accepted the award, recognizing the chapter’s dedicated efforts in nurturing the next generation of tourism professionals.

For its groundbreaking and influential sustainability projects, the PATA Malaysia HELP University Student Chapter received the Best Sustainability Initiative Award. This accolade acknowledges the chapter’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices into tourism, demonstrating that innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. Rajesvare Rada, a Senior Lecturer at HELP University, accepted the award on behalf of the chapter, highlighting the important role of educational institutions in promoting sustainable tourism practices.

In recognition of its outstanding achievements in its very first year, the PATA British University Vietnam (BUV) Student Chapter was awarded the Best Newcomer Award. This chapter has quickly made its mark by actively engaging with the PATA network and contributing to various tourism initiatives. Chau Anh Luu, the chapter’s Chairperson, proudly accepted the award, underscoring the enthusiasm and dedication of the BUV students to make a positive impact in the tourism industry.

Special Recognition Certificates

Special Recognition Certificates were also awarded to the PATA Maldives Chapter and the PATA New York Chapter, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to promoting responsible travel and tourism within the Asia Pacific region. Abdulla Ghiyas, President of the PATA Maldives Chapter, and Elizabeth Chin, Executive Director of the PATA New York Chapter, accepted the awards, symbolizing the shared vision and cooperation that drive the success of PATA’s global initiatives.

PATA Face of the Future 2024

Jane Park, who serves as the Assistant Manager of F&B Revenue Management & Operations at Hotel ICON, was formally presented with the PATA Face of the Future 2024 award during the recent event. This accolade, which she earned earlier in the month, celebrates her exemplary contributions and leadership within the industry. Meanwhile, Karnchana Phakpho, the Chairperson of the International Tourism and Hospitality Management Programme at Bangkok University, received a certificate of recognition for her outstanding work in strategic management, highlighting her impactful role in shaping future leaders in tourism. Amine Gabbouj, the Coordinator for the IGLTA Foundation, was unable to attend the ceremony in person, yet his valuable contributions to sustainability initiatives were acknowledged during the event. His work was celebrated on stage, recognizing his efforts alongside those of the other award recipients. The event underscored the importance of sustainability and innovation in the tourism sector, and Gabbouj’s recognition highlighted the significant impact of his initiatives.
