Lab Tests Reveal Substandard Cake in Patiala Death Case
Days after a Patiala girl tragically lost her life on her birthday allegedly after consuming a cake ordered online, two out of four cake samples collected after her death have turned out to be substandard.
The samples were collected from India Bakery, from where the victim girl Manvi’s parents ordered the cake on March 24. While the girl had died, her entire family had fallen sick.
An official said that the samples had a high concentration of an artificial sweetener. “If glucose is more than the permissible limit, then it is substandard,” said Dr. Vijay Jindal, Patiala District Health Officer.
He said they have issued a notice to the bakery, and action will be taken. However, under the rules, they cannot seal the bakery after finding substandard food items.
The sample of the cake consumed by the girl, which was collected by the police, has been sent to the FSL lab. The report from the FSL lab will go directly to the police.
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh had stated that he had ordered a thorough probe and asked the food safety department to get the cake tested from the state’s food safety lab.
The police are investigating the case, and several persons have been arrested. The health minister had stated that he was upset with the innocent’s death and that too on her birthday. Children are precious. Any family losing them is heartbreaking.
The incident has raised concerns about food safety and the need for stricter regulations to ensure the quality of food products.
