Patient Threatens Doctor with ‘Same Consequences’ After Kolkata Hospital Murder

A shocking incident has come to light in Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal, where a male patient allegedly threatened a female doctor with the “same consequences” as a trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the male patient, identified as Susanta Roy, entered the emergency ward of the Bhatar State General Hospital in an inebriated state. He allegedly threatened the doctor, saying, “You know what happened at RG Kar Hospital? I will do it here.” He was referring to the tragic murder of the trainee doctor whose semi-naked body was found inside the seminar hall of the hospital on Friday morning. A preliminary autopsy report confirmed sexual abuse before her murder.

The doctor, despite the threat, continued her duty, adhering to her medical ethics. She subsequently discussed the incident with other staff members. On Saturday, August 10, doctors and nurses at the hospital held a demonstration demanding punishment for Roy and security measures for healthcare personnel.

Susanta Roy, who is a civic volunteer working under the local police, has been arrested by authorities. The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of healthcare professionals, particularly women, in India.

The tragic case of the trainee doctor’s murder at RG Kar Hospital has sparked nationwide outrage and protests. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) launched a nationwide strike on Monday, demanding justice for the victim. Members gathered outside various hospitals across the country, highlighting the urgent need for increased security measures and protection for doctors and healthcare workers.
