Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs and minority owner of the Royals, may soon be making an appearance at the team’s spring training. Despite being drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, Mahomes has a strong baseball background. His father, Pat Mahomes, pitched for 11 seasons in the major leagues, and Patrick himself was a standout high school baseball player.
Mahomes first made headlines in the baseball world when he hit a massive home run at a Royals’ celebrity softball game. Since then, he has expressed interest in participating in spring training with the team. Royals general manager J.J. Picollo has extended an open invitation to Mahomes, saying, “We’d love to have him come. He’s welcome anytime.”
The timing of Mahomes’ potential spring training appearance may be challenging, as the Chiefs quarterback is typically celebrating Super Bowl victories during that time. However, Picollo acknowledged that it would be “neat” to have Mahomes at spring training and that the team would “love that.”
If Mahomes does make an appearance at spring training, it would be a major attraction for fans of both the Chiefs and the Royals. The quarterback’s star power and athleticism would undoubtedly generate excitement and attention for the event.
