The New England Patriots hosted linebacker Cam Gill for a workout on Tuesday as the team looks to add depth to its defense ahead of the 2024 NFL season. Gill, 26, spent the past four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted in 2020. He made the Buccaneers’ roster as a rookie and played in 25 games over two seasons, recording 11 tackles and three quarterback hits. Gill suffered a Lisfranc injury during the preseason in 2022, which kept him out for the entire season. Despite not seeing any game action, the Buccaneers re-signed Gill to a one-year deal for the 2023 campaign, during which he had 12 tackles, three quarterback hits, a sack, and a forced fumble. The Patriots’ linebacker room currently includes starters Ja’Whaun Bentley and Jahlani Tavai, as well as Raekwon McMillan, who has missed two of the last three seasons due to injuries. Adding Gill to the mix would provide the Patriots with some much-needed depth at the position. The Patriots are also preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday night. While they could potentially add a linebacker at some point during the three-day event, it is more likely that they will focus on other positions with their earlier picks, including quarterback with their third-overall selection.
