This year marks a double milestone for Paul Smith in Japan: 40 years since the brand’s first store opened in the country and 30 years since the launch of its women’s collection. To commemorate these anniversaries, Paul Smith is hosting a special exhibition titled “A Frame Around a Picture: 60 Years of Paul Smith Tailoring.” Located in the Space O on the B3F of Omotesando Hills in Tokyo, the exhibition delves into the history of tailoring, a cornerstone of the brand, and showcases its evolution to the present day. The exhibition runs until October 6th, 2024.
The preview event held on October 1st saw the presence of designer Paul Smith himself, who travelled to Japan for the occasion. He was joined by a host of celebrities, including Etsushi Toyokawa, Kenichi Takifuj, Riri Matsuoka, Keita Machida, Shuhei Uesugi, Kyoko Hasegawa, Mayu Matsuoka, Neru Nagahama, Akane Hotta, and Serina Motora.
The event featured a showcase of Paul Smith’s tailoring expertise, with notable figures like Etsushi Toyokawa and Kenichi Takifuj wearing bespoke suits from Paul Smith’s “Made to Measure” service. Riri Matsuoka graced the occasion in a suit, a special commemorative item for the exhibition. Akane Hotta sported a piece from the women’s 30th-anniversary capsule collection.
The exhibition, “A Frame Around a Picture: 60 Years of Paul Smith Tailoring,” is a testament to the brand’s commitment to timeless elegance and meticulous craftsmanship. It offers a glimpse into the world of Paul Smith tailoring, showcasing the brand’s journey and its enduring influence on the fashion world.
