Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of failing to highlight his government’s achievements and instead resorting to constant criticism of others.
Addressing a rally in Amravati, Maharashtra, on Monday, Pawar praised the contributions of former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, and Manmohan Singh in nation-building. He lamented that Modi has neglected to speak about the work done by his government in the last ten years and has instead engaged in incessant criticism.
Pawar expressed concern that some BJP leaders have made public remarks hinting at amending the Constitution, and urged the people to prevent the emergence of autocracy in India.
The NCP chief also apologized to the people of Amravati for supporting Navneet Rana in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, acknowledging that it was a mistake. He appealed to the voters to rectify that error in the upcoming elections.
Pawar’s remarks come amid a high-stakes election contest in the Amravati Lok Sabha constituency, where BJP’s Navneet Rana, the incumbent MP, is pitted against Congress’s Balwant Wankhede. The election is being seen as a test of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which comprises Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, and Congress.
