With cable TV subscriptions dwindling, pay-TV giants Charter and Comcast are turning to budget-friendly streaming bundles in an attempt to staunch the bleeding. As consumers increasingly opt for streaming services over traditional cable packages, Charter has launched Spectrum TV Stream, offering 90 channels for $40 per month, while Comcast has introduced NOW TV, providing 40 channels for $20 per month.
These skinny bundles are designed to appeal to budget-conscious consumers who are looking for a more affordable alternative to comprehensive cable packages. However, they lack the sports channels that many viewers crave. Despite this, the cable companies are betting that the lower price point will entice reluctant cord-cutters or cord-nevers to give their streaming bundles a try.
Charter’s Spectrum TV Stream includes popular channels such as A&E, AMC, CNN, Discovery, Disney Channel, Fox News, FX, Hallmark, and HGTV. Comcast’s NOW TV bundle includes Food Network, A&E, AMC, Hallmark Channel, and Peacock Premium. Both services are only available to current internet customers of the respective cable companies.
The launch of these streaming bundles is a sign that the cable industry is willing to experiment and adapt to the changing viewing habits of consumers. As more and more people turn to streaming services, cable companies are looking for ways to retain customers and generate revenue. These budget-friendly streaming bundles may be one way to do just that.
