PCB Announces New National Women’s Selection Committee Following West Indies Loss

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the reconstitution of its national women’s selection committee following the disappointing performance of the team in the recently concluded ICC Women’s Championship series against the West Indies. The new selection committee will be led by former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and former Pakistan batsman Asad Shafiq. The committee also includes former Pakistan women’s international player Batool Fatima, and retains Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal from the previous panel. The appointments of Razzaq and Shafiq aim to bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the selection process. Both players have represented Pakistan with distinction in international cricket and verfügen über extensive knowledge of the game. Fatima, on the other hand, brings firsthand experience of women’s cricket at the highest level. The inclusion of the coach and captain in the selection committee is in line with the structure of the men’s national selection committee. This move aims to ensure that the team’s on-field performance and player development are closely aligned with the selection decisions. The new selection committee faces the immediate task of selecting the Pakistan women’s team for the upcoming tour of England, where they are scheduled to play three T20Is and three ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 fixtures from May 11 to 29. The team’s performance in this series will be crucial as Pakistan currently holds the fifth position in the 10-team ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25. The top five teams from this championship, along with hosts India, will directly qualify for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The remaining teams will participate in a Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament. The PCB hopes that the new selection committee will be able to guide the Pakistan women’s team to greater heights and help them qualify for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
