Peak Energy Appoints Liam O’Connor as Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder

Peak Energy, a U.S.-based company focused on developing low-cost, giga-scale energy storage technology, has recently appointed Liam O’Connor as Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder. O’Connor joins the founding team of Peak Energy as they embark on scaling the first U.S. venture dedicated to advancing proven sodium-ion battery technology. This technology aims to accelerate grid decarbonization and significantly reduce energy storage costs. The increasing adoption of AI has placed immense pressure on the grid, as the energy required to power AI tasks continues to rise exponentially. To address this challenge, a reliable storage solution is crucial for sustainable growth. Peak Energy believes that sodium-ion batteries represent the ideal solution for grid-scale storage, offering a more secure and cost-effective means of powering the future of AI. Recognizing the potential of sodium-ion batteries to revolutionize the industry, Peak Energy was established in 2023 with the goal of industrializing sodium-ion battery systems and establishing the U.S. as a global leader in this rapidly growing market. “Unlocking the full potential of renewable energy requires affordable and reliable energy storage, and sodium-ion batteries provide the proven, abundant, and cost-effective solution to achieve this,” said Landon Mossburg, co-founder and CEO of Peak Energy. “Liam’s extensive experience in global operations and supply chain will be invaluable as we swiftly scale operations and initiate the deployment of our sodium-ion systems next year.” O’Connor joins Peak Energy’s founding team, which includes Mossburg and battery industry veteran Cameron Patterson, President and Chief Commercial Officer. The team boasts a wealth of experience in scaling some of the most iconic companies in the energy, mobility, and battery sectors, including Tesla, Northvolt, and Enovix. O’Connor brings two decades of leadership expertise in operations at renowned technology companies such as Tesla, Apple, and Lyft. In his most recent role as COO of Zipline, the world’s leading autonomous drone delivery service, O’Connor oversaw global operations and expansion in eight countries, managing core functions like manufacturing, supply chain, and quality. Previous to Zipline, O’Connor held leadership positions at Tesla, where he led the global supply chain team and industrialization engineering, and at Apple, where he managed the global custom semiconductor and sensor supply chain. “The urgent need for a reliable, stable, and domestic solution for clean energy storage is evident, driven by environmental, geopolitical, and market pressures,” said O’Connor. “I have known this team for years, and I am confident that their deep industry knowledge, technical expertise, and commitment will enable the U.S. to become a leader in sodium-ion battery technology. I am eager to collaborate with Landon, Cameron, and the rest of the team to bring this vision to fruition on a grand scale.” O’Connor’s appointment follows Peak Energy’s successful launch last year, which was supported by a seed funding round led by Eclipse and battery and energy leaders at TDK Ventures. Peak Energy is set to begin deploying its sodium-ion systems next year while simultaneously establishing the first domestic giga-scale battery factory dedicated to sodium-ion technology, with plans for its opening in 2026.
