Pedestrian Fatally Struck in San Martin Hit-and-Run

San Martin, CA

– A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident that occurred in San Martin on Tuesday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal collision took place around 5:20 a.m. on Monterey Road near Roosevelt Avenue.

At the time of the incident, conditions were cool, cloudy, and dark. The pedestrian, identified as a 56-year-old Gilroy man, was attempting to cross Monterey Road from east to west when he was struck by a southbound 1998 Ford Windstar traveling at approximately 50 mph. The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene.

The CHP is actively investigating the incident and seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP Hollister-Gilroy area office at 408-427-0700.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been contributing factors in the collision. The identity of the pedestrian will be released once it is confirmed and his next of kin is identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
