## PERC’s Technical School Grant Program Equips Future HVAC & Plumbing Technicians with Propane Knowledge
The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is committed to fostering a skilled workforce for the future. Through their Technical School Grant Program, PERC is making a significant impact on the HVAC and plumbing industries by equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to work with propane systems.
In 2024, PERC awarded grants to 39 educational institutions across 24 states. This funding will allow these schools to expand their propane-related curriculum and resources, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that will enhance their career opportunities post-graduation.
The grant program offers educators up to $10,000 and access to crucial instructional materials covering topics like propane usage, installation, and safety in various applications, including water heaters, furnaces, and boilers. To further support practical learning, institutions will also receive valuable industry tools such as propane regulator test boards, hydrometers, and pressure regulating devices.
Since its inception in 2021, the Technical School Grant Program has reached over 100 technical schools, positively impacting thousands of students. In 2024 alone, PERC estimates that 3,000 students aspiring to careers in HVAC and plumbing will benefit from this program.
“Having the opportunity to educate future HVAC and plumbing technicians across the country on how to safely work with propane systems is incredibly rewarding,” said Elena Bennett, senior manager of industry training and education at PERC. “Propane is an energy source that offers reliability, efficiency, and sustainability benefits, and it’s exciting to see educators prioritize its inclusion in their curriculum.”
The selected institutions will participate in a training course provided by PERC this summer, ensuring they are well-prepared to implement the new curriculum in their classrooms this fall. In 2023, over 90 grant applications were submitted, highlighting the significant demand for this program.
“This curriculum has not only provided extended learning opportunities for our students entering the trade but has also given them essential equipment for hands-on experience working with propane systems,” said Mark Murphy, a 2021 grant recipient from Northwest Tech. “The preparation they are getting from this program is invaluable.”
Applications for the 2025 Technical School Grant Program are now open until December 20. To learn more about the program and how to apply, visit propane.com/technical-school-grant-program/.
