Sergio Perez’s improved performances this season have brought relief to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. Despite teammate Max Verstappen’s continued dominance, Perez has shown consistency with four podium finishes in the first five Grands Prix. Marko has noted Perez’s shift in attitude, as he no longer publicly declares his aspirations to beat Verstappen and instead focuses on collaboration. This, according to Marko, has resulted in better qualifying results for Perez.
Perez’s strong showings have coincided with a decrease in statements suggesting a desire to surpass Verstappen. Marko welcomes this change, stating that it has reduced pressure on Perez and allowed him to perform more effectively. Perez’s current Red Bull contract expires at the end of the year, and his future with the team remains uncertain. Despite his improved form, Red Bull sees no reason to rush a decision and may opt for a one-year extension or explore other options, including the potential return of former driver Alex Albon.
