Forget the frying pan – there’s a new way to cook the perfect fried egg, and it’s surprisingly simple. Using an air fryer, you can achieve crispy edges and a creamy, runny yolk without the risk of overcooked or burnt eggs.
ChihYu Chiang, a cook and founder of I Heart Umami, shares her secret to achieving air-fried perfection. She explains that air frying eggs offers a faster, healthier alternative to stovetop cooking, using less oil and resulting in a delicious, protein-packed addition to any meal.
The air fryer helps cook the egg evenly, resulting in a richer, creamier texture compared to traditional frying. ChihYu assures that this method is foolproof, producing consistently crispy exteriors with perfectly runny yolks every time.
To cook your air-fried eggs, you’ll only need a few simple ingredients:
* One large egg
* Oil spray (or olive oil or butter)
* A shallow and heatproof non-stick tray
* Spatula
* Oven mitts
Here’s how to create your air-fried masterpiece:
1. Spray the tray with oil (or grease with butter) and preheat the air fryer at 200°C for five minutes.
2. Crack the egg into a small bowl or mug.
3. Carefully pour the egg into the very hot tray.
4. Place the tray in the air fryer at 180°C and cook for a few minutes, depending on your desired level of doneness.
5. For a sunny-side-up or over-easy egg, air fry for three minutes. For a medium yolk, cook for an additional minute.
6. Remove the tray from the air fryer and use a spatula to carefully lift your perfectly cooked egg.
Enjoy your delicious, air-fried creation! You’ll never want to cook your eggs any other way again.
