Peter Kay fans are fuming after he canceled two huge gigs with just 24 hours’ notice.
The 50-year-old comic was due to open Manchester’s newly built Co-op Live with two shows on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. But on Monday it was announced the gigs at the venue, which can seat 23,500 people and is expected to be the largest indoor arena in Europe, would have to be postponed after capacity for a test event was reduced.
Many fans have taken to social media demanding refunds instead and compensation for lost transport and hotel costs.
“If I’m being brutally honest, you knew about this on Friday and should have canceled sooner,” fumed one angry fan. “People have booked days off, trains, hotels that can no longer be cancelled, and babysitters, made plans for the evening before and after. I have spent over £1k for my family to make this.”
A Co-op Live spokesperson said: “It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind. Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size.”
