Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos Look Beyond J.J. McCarthy to Oregon’s Bo Nix for Quarterback Future

Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning had previously expressed admiration for Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. However, the Denver Broncos appear to be expanding their horizons in their search for a potential franchise quarterback.

According to Albert Breer of athlonsports.com, the Broncos have been conducting extensive research on Oregon quarterback Bo Nix. Their interest in Nix is evident in a lengthy Zoom call on March 7th and a private workout attended by head coach Sean Payton and other members of the Broncos’ coaching staff.

The Broncos currently hold the 12th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Without a second-round pick to potentially trade for a higher selection, they may need to patiently await their turn and select the best available quarterback at their current draft position.

Despite the focus on Nix, the Broncos recently acquired Zach Wilson from the New York Jets via trade. Wilson will join Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci on the Broncos’ quarterback depth chart.
