Philadelphia Flyers forward Joel Farabee has been added to Team USA’s roster for the upcoming IIHF Men’s World Championships in Ostrava and Prague, Czechia, from May 10 to May 26. Farabee will be making his first appearance with Team USA in five years, having last played for the U-20 World Junior Championships in 2018-19.
Farabee had a career-best season with the Flyers, setting new highs in goals (22), assists (28), and points (50), despite a disappointing end to the regular season. The 24-year-old forward will be joined on Team USA by Montreal Canadiens sniper Cole Caufield, with whom he played on the U-18 World Junior Championships team in 2017.
Team USA boasts a strong roster this year, and it will be exciting to see Farabee and his teammates compete for a medal in the Czech Republic. Other notable players on the team include Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, Jason Robertson, and Ryan Poehling.
It is currently unclear whether Farabee will be facing any of his Flyers teammates in Czechia next month. Travis Konecny reportedly received an invite from Team Canada but declined to participate. Rookie goalie Sam Ersson has expressed interest in playing for Sweden at the World Championships, but discussions are still ongoing.
The IIHF Men’s World Championships is an annual international ice hockey tournament that brings together the top teams from around the world. The tournament is held every year, except for Olympic years, and is considered one of the most prestigious events in international hockey. Team USA has won the World Championships six times, most recently in 2013.
