Philips has made a splash in the smart home market with the launch of a trio of new products, led by the futuristic Philips Home Access 5000 Series Palm Recognition Smart Lock. This device goes beyond traditional key, PIN code, or app-based access, incorporating a built-in palm scanner for unparalleled security. The scanner, according to Philips, leverages unique palm vein patterns, making it virtually impossible to hack and offering families an ultra-secure way to safeguard their homes. Setting up the lock is as simple as most other smart locks, thanks to integrated Wi-Fi, eliminating the need for a secondary bridge. It also seamlessly integrates with voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
The 5000 Series Palm Recognition Smart Lock isn’t just about security. It also features a doorbell button and chime, offering added convenience. The button glows when visitors are nearby, making it clear how to alert homeowners. Pressing the button sends an alert to the included doorbell chime, which plugs into a standard outlet and boasts five volume levels and 38 unique melodies.
While the Philips Home Access 5000 Series Palm Recognition Smart Lock boasts a wealth of functionality, this comprehensive feature set results in a slightly larger device compared to other smart locks on the market. Despite its size, it maintains a sleek design, though it may not be as streamlined as models like the Yale Assure Lock 2.
Beyond the flagship palm recognition smart lock, Philips has also introduced the Retrofit Lock 3000 Series. This retrofit smart lock offers control through a wireless keypad or the mobile app.
Completing the trio of new launches is the 7000 Series Video Doorbell, capturing 2K footage with HDR for enhanced color accuracy. Its low-angle and ultrawide viewing angles eliminate blind spots, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
All three products are now available for purchase, with the Philips Home Access 5000 Series Palm Recognition Smart Lock priced at $360. The Retrofit Lock 3000 Series comes in two formats: $260 when bundled with the Wireless Key and $220 as a standalone lock. The 7000 Series Smart Video Doorbell is priced at $230.
These new products enter crowded markets, with competitors like Yale, Arlo, and Ring offering similar solutions. However, their unique features and eye-catching designs make them compelling alternatives to existing options, offering smart home enthusiasts a wider range of choices.
